Girl talk can be so healing

You know what I am talking about! Meeting chatting and gathering with those dear friends, the ones that you can hang with and have deep healing conversations with, and in that  same friendship you can spend quality time together and not say anything. Friends that love you for you and offer advice when asked and yet can also sit back and just listen. Healing girl talk is when you can share and feel heard but not judged. And even better, if you have been friends for so long that no explanation is necessary.

This past weekend was spent with one of my dearest and longest lasting friendships. We have gone through marriages, sickness, births, divorces…we have laughed, cried, celebrated and most of all we have supported each other. Our friendship has endured because we are always honest, we do not compete, there is never any jealousy and we genuinely want what is best for each other

Friends are even more important as we age

“Just as loneliness can hurt our health, friendships can actually improve it in far-reaching (and sometimes surprising) ways. Studies have found socializing can strengthen the immune system. It can help us recover more quickly from illness, lower blood pressure and the risk of heart disease, sharpen memory and help us even get a better night’s sleep. Socializing can also improve our odds of living longer. According to one study, people with strong connections to family and friends have a 50% greater chance of outliving those with fewer social ties.” From Aetna Health

Maintaining healthy friendships

Call your friends, don’t  rely on text.

Check in for no reason other than to just say hi.

Give encouragement.

Make time to spend time together.

Try new experiences.

Listen without judgement.

And my favorite, laugh out loud.
