The romance of winter sports

There is nothing like the romance of a ski/snow boarding vacation. A cozy lodge with friends sitting near a big rock fireplace and the smell of burning wood, hot chocolate or Irish coffee-both with whipped creme of course, big sweaters and warm blankets, french onion soup and melted Raclette cheese. And the cold!

Below are 5 very popular and nationally recognized US resort locations. But I would love to hear from you about your favorite. It could be a lesser known resort but a location that you and your family have enjoyed and our reader’s might enjoy as well. Scroll down to learn about my favorite Tahoe retreat.

US Ski Resort (in alphabetical order)

Breckenridge, CO: One of the most popular ski resorts in Colorado with a world-renown ski town and many winter activities in addition to skiing like snow sledding and snowmobiling.

Jackson Hole, WY: Okay this is my not so unbiased opinion but I love Jackson Hole-and I have never even skied it. But the beauty, the people, the town of Jackson…just sayin.

Palisades, CA (Squaw Valley to those of us that have lived here forever): The largest ski resort in California and Olympic Heritage-did I mention I grew up skiing here:))

Sun Valley Resort, ID: With more than 2,000 acres of skiable terrain for all ability levels and then add star sightings this is a fan favorite.

Vail, CO: Vail is world-famous for its extensive terrain, legendary back bowls and over the top guest experiences. Huge ski ares, European style village, fabulous dining and lodging.

My favorite: yes I love Palisades because I have skied it most of my life. But add Northstar Village (also in Tahoe)-park once and have access to a ski resort with fabulous lodging, ice skating, transportation to the slopes and several restaurants all in one location.
